What is a doula?
Simply put, support - physical, emotional, and informational. A compassionate and open-hearted presence for you before, during and after pregnancy.
What does a doula do?
Support in the perinatal time looks different for everyone as we are all individuals and there is no right or wrong way to birth, just your way. You can expect comforting touch, presence and evidence-based information from your doula. Doula care is also specific to your needs. Ask about what you need and what you are seeking in your support person.
The guiding principles of the practice are derived from the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association's (CAPPA) Four Cornerstone Tenets and Philosophy:
1. Using evidence-based information in practice
2. Embracing positive mental attitudes
3. Approaching all situations with a loving, non judgmental mindset
4. Building bridges among support and healthcare professionals
